Environs

This tranquil gite is set in the quiet commune of Séglien, in the heart of the Breton countryside. An excellent base for walking and cycling or simply enjoying the rich local culture, indeed everything Brittany has to offer.

Le Relais Americaine, a typical French restaurant, is 5 minutes drive or a pleasant 30 minute country walk. It is only open at lunchtime. Le Lion, 10 minutes by car, we hear serves good food all day long.

Seglién

The village is only 2 minutes by car or a 10 minute stroll. The central square is home to
a large historic church, tasty crepêrie, English shop/boulangerie and a local bar/tabac both of which sell bread and provisions for all your immediate needs.

Guémené-sur-Scorff

A pretty market town, home of the Andouille sausage, boasts some fine houses and the ruin of an old castle.

Only 10 minutes away by car, it has two supermarkets a fantastic deli plus all amenities.

There are several bars and restaurants for you to discover. Our favourite, Les Trois Marchands, offers a four course lunchtime meal with wine for 10 euros.

There is a small Thursday market and on Sunday mornings fresh oysters are on sale from a street stall in season. The town also has
a sports complex where you may play tennis, details are available from the Banjo Bar.

Nearby

Other local attractions include Lake Etang du Dordu at Langoëlan, home to black swans and other rare birds. There is a café and play area for children.

Pont Samuel is another pretty lake near Silfiac, the café serves wonderful moules et frites we are told. The Lac de Bel Air at Priziac 7km away, has much the same to offer as Le Lac
de Guerledan below.

Le Lac de Guerledan

Surrounded by beautiful forest the lake is about 15 minutes drive away. With sandy beaches and safe bathing it is perfect for boating, windsurfing, fishing, cycling, walking and of course picnics. Boat trips are available. There is a bar and restaurant. Close by are the remains of the 12th century Abbey de Bon Repos.

Also the old iron and steel working hamlet of
les 'Forges-des-Salles,' where you can visit
the former workers homes furnished in their
original style.

Rimaison Golf Course

Set in the magnificent grounds of a retired chateau the 9 hole Rimaison golf course offers panoramic views of the Blavet river valley.
It is only 20 minutes drive with club house
and shop.

Pontivy

The mediæval town of Pontivy, on the river Blavet, is 20 minutes away with a 15th century chateau and old town with narrow winding streets to explore. The new town, designed by Napoleon, has a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants and is home to a friendly weekly
Monday market.
